| Richard
Higginbottom was brought up in England,
went to Manchester University to study archaeology and was a museum
curator for nearly 10 years, latterly in Inverness, before training
for the ordained ministry in Edinburgh. He married a Glaswegian,
Heather, in 1985 shortly before moving to parish ministry in Leicester.
He was later a minister in rural Gloucestershire and then rural
north Derbyshire before becoming CPAS Consultant for NW England
and Scotland in 1993 and moving to Lancashire. In 1998, CPAS transferred
him to Bankfoot, Perthshire to develop the Scottish ministry of
CPAS and he relinquished charge of NW England. He has four children,
aged between four and fifteen. Richard has experience and qualifications
in management and parish ministry and is well aware of the concerns
and joys of full-time ministers. In Scotland,he has worked across
the denominations, preaching, training and offering consultancy
in a wide range of church situations. He also offers consultancy
on a one-to-one basis to ministers/leaders. His training brief has
included small groups, strategy for youth/children's ministry, missionary
congregations, evangelism, Alpha courses, rural ministry and the
CPAS Lost for Words faith-sharing course(both as a leader and a
trainer of potential leaders). His training style aims to be interactive
and his passion is for local churches to be mobilised for evangelism.
He hopes that he is good listener and an enabler who continues to
learn, as a disciple of Christ. There are over 4 million people
in Scotland who need reaching with the Gospel! Richard's base in
Perthshire is 90 minutes from 90% of Scotland and he is willing
to travel to help your church if you mean business about Jesus'Great
Commission (Matthew 28:19). Personal specialisms Parish ministry
has prepared Richard for many things, but his chief specialist areas
are in rural ministry and in local evangelism. He has been involved
in a number of mission initiatives over the years, has done some
research into rural evangelism and is currently piloting a car boot
sale outreach project in Perth. He is particularly interested in
getting Christians out of their comfort zones and into the marketplace
or community where non-believers meet--shopping malls, superstores,
car boot sales,leisure centres/football stadia, high-rise blocks
and village halls and pubs--so that the Gospel can be shared in
innovative and sensitive ways, yet without compomising its content.
Relational evangelism in a changing culture is the aim here. With
the help of others, he is also trying to establish a Christian resources
centre in Perth. He is keen to work with other Christian agencies
and would love to see more churches engaging overseas missionaries
to help with local evangelism."
